R.C. Sproul's Foundations Class:   An Overview of Systematic Theology

(Teachers:  Gary Gensch and Jason Wegener)

The truths of Scripture relate to each other in perfect harmony.  This eye-opening series addresses a myriad of questions about the origin and authority of the Bible, God, the Trinity, man, sin, salvation, revelation, miracles, the church, the end times and more.  We will begin the first 20 classes of a 60 course series that will cover an "Introduction to Theology", "Theology Proper" and "Anthropology and Creation".  We hope these Biblical truths that have stood the test of time and which form the strong back bone of our faith will guide your understanding of the true nature of God, and the true nature of Man in light of your life experiences and walk with the Lord.  Our goal is to not only increase your understanding of the revealed doctrines of God, but also to encourage your faith and obedience to the Lord.

Ladies Bible Studies:
Everywhere around us we hear about “these times” we are living in.  It is on the front page of the paper and on the radio; we talk about it over coffee, and hear it mentioned in sermons.   Ladies, we ask ourselves, “what can I do”?  Well, one thing we can do, in fact we must do, is to be grounded in the TRUTH, in God’s Word.  We need not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.  (Romans 12:2).  If we want to not worry, and seek God’s kingdom (Matthew 6:33-34), we must continue to do the work of seriously studying God’s Word, and find supernatural power to live for His kingdom.

With that in mind, we encourage all Heartland women to be involved in some sort of group Bible study.  We have several offerings beginning in September.  Look at the list below, and ask the Lord if He would have you join us in going deeper, being firmly established in Him.

Jeremiah

Come join us starting September 7th on Wednesday mornings from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the Heartland Library as we do an inductive study of Jeremiah.  Janet Malcom will be our teacher.  We will also have Precept workbooks.  We want to remind everyone that even though the precept method can seem overwhelming, we do not want this to hinder your desire to study God's Word.  We feel the workbook is the best choice we have for a deeper study of Jeremiah and is well done.

The personal study part will not be mandatory for your attendance but encouraged for your own personal benefit and spiritual growth.  Workbooks are $20.  Childcare will be available for a minimal cost.  To make reservations for a book and/or childcare, please email Vicki Granberry or contact the church office.

Francis Schaeffer boldly identified Jeremiah as a prophet for post-Christian times.  "Jeremiah provides us with an extended study of an era like our own, where men have turned away from God and society has become post-Christian."  Phil Ryken, during his study of Jeremiah with his church body said, "We were often amazed at its relevance for life in these postmodern times.  The barbaric relativism Jeremiah witnessed in ancient Israel has come to America!"

We hope you will consider this opportunity for studying God's Word together!

Because He Loves Me

The book "Because He Loves Me" by Elyse Fitzpatrick will show us how Christ transforms our daily life when we know who God is and how much He loves us.  In this book we will look at the ways God shows His love for us and then knowing that, how our lives will be transformed with hope, courage, peace and love.  There will be minimal homework.  This study is not only for Heartland women but also serves as an outreach to neighbors.  The study will be led by Kathy Morris on Wednesday mornings starting September 7th.  Please contact Kathy Morris or the church office for more information.

Childcare is available for all studies, but participants are asked to help supplement the church’s cost at a rate of $30 for one child or $40 for two
or more children per semester. If financial assistance is needed, please contact your study leader to make other arrangements!

Introduction to Apologetics - Does God Exist?

Focus on the Family's TrueU curriculum offers an introduction to apologetics (a defense of our faith).  The first set of 10 sessions - Does God Exist? - Surveys recent findings in the physical and biological sciences, as well as mathematics.  These provide a compelling case against the common argument that belief in God is "just a blind leap of faith."

These lessons show how God's existence offers the only coherent explanation for objective and meaningful morality.  Because the actions of all people reveal that they presuppose an objective and meaningful moral code, only belief in God allows people to live consistently with their belief system.  TrueU is a precursor to the in-depth study presented in The Truth Project of how to live out a Christian worldview.

Tenth and Eleventh Grades - LaVerne Waalkes and various other elders

Overview of Systematic Theology:  Foundations

Dr R.C. Sproul's overview of systematic theology: Foundations, is the basis for this in-depth look at the Christian faith.  Each video is 23 minutes long leaving lots of time for discussion of each topic.  The 60 lessons will be covered over a two-year period.  At the end of the year the history of the Christian faith will be explored.

Twelvth Grade - Kurt Scharping, Adam Parker and Ron Johnson

Readiness for the Secular Onslaught of Evolution and Humanism

Are your seniors ready for the secular onslaught of Evolution and Humanism?  This is a two-part class.  The first semester will focus on the Creation/Evolution issue.  Covering biology, geology and astronomy this class will show that only the Bible explains what we see in the world.  The second semester will cover Dr. Greg Bahnsen's book, Pushing the Antithesis.  This presuppositional apologetic method will show that only faith in the God of the Bible gives the preconditions for intelligibility, morality, and knowledge.  As your seniors prepare for university and/or the secular world make sure they are ready to give a defense for the hope that is in them.
