Officer Nomination Process

STEP 1: Beginning September 1 through September 30, the Session will be accepting nominations for the offices of elder and deacon.  Before nominating anyone, we ask you to first take the following steps:

    1. Review the qualifications for officers as found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 and summarized in Chapters 8-9 of the Book of Church Order;

    2. Prayerfully consider if any men in our church are exhibiting the qualifications for a given office

    3. Personally ask him if he aspires to a given office (see 1 Tim 3:1).  If after having taken these steps you would like to nominate a brother, you can use the online form to submit your nomination.

STEP 2: In October & November, Session members will meet with the nominated men to hear their testimony and sense of call. The Session may grant these men provisional approval to participate in an Officer Training Cohort.

STEP 3: Those provisionally approved will then participate in an Officer Training Cohort.  This will serve as a qualification season of discipleship and training in church doctrine and leadership. Following a small group format, the Cohort will meet approximately 14 times over the course of the following year (likely during Jan-Sept of the following year).  Click here for an overview of the curriculum and schedule.

STEP 4: Following the training, candidates will then be examined by the Session in doctrinal and practical areas.

STEP 5: Finally, Session-approved candidates will be presented to the congregation as eligible for election. Officers are elected by a simple majority at a congregational meeting.  Soon after the election, a service of ordination and installation will be held.
