October 26, 2022

6:00pm – 7:30pm

Category: All Church Invited | Coordinator: Jack Rymer

Who?

This event is open to everyone, we want to aim to get Clark Elementary students, Heartland Community Church’s (HCC) students and really any other community member child to be participating in this event. Any child 12 and under are required to have parental/legal guardian supervision. We will also need volunteers in order for this event to happen. Volunteers are needed to bring a vehicle, decorate it with a theme and distribute candy to children. Candy will be provided for distribution from donations asked for from the HCC members.

What?

A “trunk-or-treat” is an alternative to “trick-or-treating” where family’s drive their vehicle to a parking lot, then park in a fashion where their trunk is facing out towards the driving section of the parking lot. Then they decorate the trunk of their car/truck to themes such as 80’s disco/football/space/ etc. It is important to keep it appropriate for young children and to dress in a way that matches the theme. Some themes also allow you to incorporate games for the children to play. For example, if you had a fishing theme you could set up a small pool and have a game where you have a hookless fishing pull with a magnet at the end of the string and you have to catch the toy fish in the pool (that have a piece of metal to attract the magnet).

Where?

Clark Elementary school’s parking lot, below is a satellite image of the parking lot. This address is 650 S Apache Dr, Wichita, KS 67207 and is less than 5 minutes south of HCC.

When?

It will take place Wednesday, October 26th, 2022 at 6 pm to 7:30 pm, it is recommended that you arrive 30 minutes before the start time, 5:30 pm, in order to park and then set up the decorations in your trunk and to receive your candy from the volunteer station.

Why?

It is important to HCC that we have outreach events that invite community members to join with the church’s members to spend time with one another. This also creates opportunities to share the Gospel and invite families to join HCC for worship on Sunday mornings. It is also a safe and alternative way to “trick-or-treat” knowing that children will be in one location, surrounded by many safe people and picking from candy that is coming from one location into the bags of the children.

How?

This event will require many volunteers, Clark Elementary’s parking lot can hold up to 45 vehicles in it’s parking lot’s spots, it would be great to have a full parking lot and if needed more spades can be created in the grass sides of the parking lot. We need members to fill out on a sign up sheet their name, what theme they plan on decorating their vehicles with and if they plan on incorporating a game by their vehicle. There will be an online form that volunteers can fill out and a paper form that can be filled out as well. We will also need donations of candy, there will be a storage container with a sign that says “candy donations for trunk-or-treat” in the greeting area as soon as you walk into the HCC building. Cash/check donations can also be accepted in order for purchase of candy in bulk from a store. There will be 2 different flyers for this event, one will be an invite to the “trunk-or-treat” with details of the event that will be passed out to children at Clark elementary and be distributed to the neighborhood near Clark elementary. The other flyer will be distributed at the “trunk-or-treat” itself, we will provide bags for those needing a candy bag, this bag will already include the second flyer that has an invitation for families to join HCC for worship on Sundays. We will also need volunteers to be greeters at this event to be warm and welcoming to families and to hand out these invitations to those from around the neighborhood.

The goal is to glorify God through this community outreach and interact with the community’s members.
